Supporting the Dream: Discipling 3000 and the Budget
Each College Church budget supports our congregation’s dream for the future, and our dream shares in God’s. This year’s budget was planned, discussed, and adopted with this question in mind: “How will it support the dream behind Discipling 3000 to spread His Word?”
In Luke 14, Jesus provides examples of “counting the cost” that apply directly to the budgeting process (25-33). He talks about a builder’s need to know the cost of a projected tower and a king’s need to be sure his army is sufficient—otherwise the tower will be unfinished and the battle lost.
We believe this budget reflects ample financial and human resources to implement the dream that is Discipling 3000. Everything in it has a direct or indirect impact on sharing God’s Word.
Jordan has been preaching about ministries recently, and most of our 10 broad ministry areas are directly involved in outreach to the community. Ministries such as Missions, College, and Discipleship are on the “front lines” of sharing the Good News. Other ministries do some “front line” work while also supporting our own members through education (adults and children), and supporting this building where much of our ministry begins.
This year’s budget continues to support and expand all ministries. One new initiative includes Theo Westbrook’s work in the Communication and College ministries. Another is the Women’s Ministry program “Feeding the Flock,” which provides food on a temporary or emergency basis for church members in need. More significant budget increases include Foreign and Domestic Missions as well as Benevolence.
Behind every number in the 2025-26 budget is a group of people dedicated to ministry. More than money, God wants us—His people—to realize the dream of bringing others to Him. Throughout Luke 14, Jesus talks about us in the context of feasts and dinners, which symbolize the Kingdom. As God’s servants responsible for conveying invitations, we are to remain humble, leave lesser things behind, and “go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that [His] house may be filled” (v. 23).
Today, as we present the new budget, our prayer is that you find a place in our ministries, helping share God’s story of reconciliation with 3,000 souls—or more—in the coming year.
