The Women's Card Ministry
“The Women’s Ministry has a long history of encouraging and sharing God’s love with others through the card ministry,” says Tia Stone, new leader of the WM, who points out that the singular term is shorthand for various efforts to connect with certain College Church groups.
In Romans 16, Paul mentions three women who “work hard in the Lord” (v. 12). That phrase describes the trio who manage the three divisions of our card ministry.
We’ve invited them to say a word about their work:
Jennifer Wright: Birthdays and Anniversaries
We seek to help church members celebrate these special days. Each month I choose an appropriate number of volunteers from our master list, and ask each one to write a personalized birthday or anniversary message to 10 people, address and seal the envelopes, and note the date of the event. Completed cards are sent to the church office for stamping and mailing. I thank the wonderful women who use their creativity to help make fellow members feel valued by the church family—and welcome any woman who wants to join us.
Sarah Crouch: Letters to Missionaries
This ministry is intended to encourage our missionaries, both foreign and domestic, by maintaining a personal connection between them and our church family. I’m always looking for more people to help write letters or emails to our missionaries and would love for you to be part of this ministry! Typically, I ask the same volunteers to communicate with one of our missionary families a few times a year. In the past, I’ve also gotten help from Bible classes. If this is something you’d be interested in, please contact me!
Tracy Bailey: Young at Heart
Our ministry serves the widows of College Church, providing extra "tender loving care" to them through personal visits, check-in calls or cards of encouragement, and to meet any personal needs that may arise. We also host monthly birthday celebrations and periodic small fellowships—and sometimes make surprise deliveries. We serve 96 wonderful ladies, so if you enjoy visiting, sending cards, or throwing a party, we could use your "special touch.” You will be rewarded by serving our "Young-at-Heart" ladies. The lasting friendships I have developed through this ministry are invaluable!!
Paul himself was a recipient of encouragement from fellow Christians, and his words of gratitude could apply to the 70 women of the card ministries: “They have supplied what was lacking . . . [and] refreshed my spirit” (I Cor. 16:17-18).*
*Obviously thanks are also due to other encouragers not officially part of any ministry.
