Women’s Day One Small Step—Many Rich Blessings

When John and I started attending College Church in 2011, I knew I wanted to connect with other women, but I didn’t know what to do or who to contact. I wasn’t even sure what talents I had that the Lord would want to use.
When we placed membership, I marked “Women’s Day” on the involvement sheet. I wasn’t exactly sure what that included, but it didn’t sound like a huge time commitment, so I decided it might be something I could do.
Eventually I was asked to help with the next Women’s Day event. The experience of women coming together to support and uplift one another was inspirational. The next year they asked me to be one of the coordinators. Since then, God has opened many doors in Women’s Ministry for me. When Anessa Westbrook, whom I assisted, stepped down as ministry leader, I was excited to replace her. But it all started with one small step.
As ministry leader, I want to help other women experience those “open doors.” The Women’s Ministry equips us to grow in our faith, serve others, and make connections with women in our church family. It provides opportunities for service, mentoring, and fellowship.
At the heart of the ministry is intergenerational discipleship—the importance of older women teaching and training younger women, set forth in Titus 2:3-5. God has placed several faithful women in my life who have mentored and encouraged me along the way. To mention a few, Anessa helped me grow as a leader; Debbie Duke has been a mentor in raising children, and my mother-in-law, Susan Stone, has always modeled what a godly wife and mother look like.
I am eternally grateful for the relationships I’ve made through Women’s Ministry.
That brings me back to Women’s Day. As you’ll see elsewhere in the bulletin, our annual event is next weekend, Saturday, September 20th. Whether you are a woman new to this congregation or a longtime member—whether you’re a new Christian or mature in the faith—this day can introduce you to the Women’s Ministry and the blessings it offers. If you are hesitant to be involved, I hope you will consider joining us next Saturday.
There is a place for you, right here, right now. And it’s only one small step away.
