My First Year with CCYG

It seems impossible that I have worked with the College Church Youth Group for almost a year now. I have absolutely loved serving as the girls’ youth minister.
During this year, my life has changed greatly. I moved to a new city on my own, began a full-time position in ministry, got engaged and married, and made many wonderful memories at College Church. When I look back on it all, I am overwhelmed with how much God has blessed me within one year.
Of the many memories I could mention, I will try to highlight a couple that are particularly meaningful.
One trip that I treasure is the Teen Leaders Conference for 9th-12th grade students put on by the youth ministers at different Searcy Churches of Christ. During this January weekend, the teens worshiped together, attended various classes, and spent quality time with people from other congregations. On the last night, our youth group took turns encouraging each other with positive qualities they saw in each person.  Watching the teenagers learn how to be leaders among their peers by lifting each other up and telling them the differences they are making in the youth group and at school encouraged me too.
A second meaningful memory is the impact of the events I shared with our 7th-12th girls. For example, I held a Senior High girls breakfast and devotional at my apartment the first Saturday morning of each month to discuss different topics the girls wanted to learn more about, like how to be the kind of friend you would want to have. The group was smaller, but that allowed deep and purposeful discussions.
Spending time with the 7th-12th grade girls--teaching Sunday morning or Wednesday night classes, planning fun events, grabbing lunch or coffee, or attending their extracurricular activities--has allowed me to build relationships and support them to the best of my ability.
As summer winds down, more exciting events are coming up. For example, our Back-to-School Retreat will take place in late August. The theme is “Own It,” with a focus on Philippians 3:12: "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me."
My first year with CCYG has been a time of personal change and growth, and I look forward to seeing what the next one holds for me and my girls.
